Renting a house in Islamabad: what to agree before you sign
Advance, yearly increase, bills and police registration: the points that save tenants and landlords from arguments.

A good rent agreement is short, clear and signed before the keys change hands. These are the points we always put in writing.
Money
- Monthly rent and the date it is due
- The advance or security deposit, and when it is returned
- The yearly increase, often 10%, agreed upfront
- Who pays which bills and maintenance
Rules of the house
Agree on the number of people living there, parking, pets and any changes to the house. Take photos and meter readings on the day you move in.
Police registration
In Islamabad, tenants must be registered with the police. We help both sides complete it on the day the agreement is signed.
