Driving to Murree in snow: a simple checklist
Chains, timings, fuel and what to do if the road is closed. Our driver's advice for a safe winter trip.
By Imran Satti, Hillview Guest House (demo)
Snow makes Murree magical, but the roads need respect. Imran has driven guests up from Islamabad for ten winters; this is his checklist.
Before you leave
- Check the road status with us on WhatsApp the morning you travel.
- Fill the tank in Islamabad or Bhara Kahu.
- Carry snow chains, or rent them before the climb.
- Pack water, snacks, a blanket and a phone power bank.
On the road
- Leave Islamabad before 9am to avoid the weekend queue.
- Drive in a low gear on the climb, and brake gently.
- Never stop on a bend to take photos.
If the road is closed
Closures are announced by the authorities when snow is heavy. If your road is closed, call us: we move your booking to new dates free of charge.
