Is my child ready for Playgroup? 7 gentle signs
What to look for, how to prepare at home and how the first week at school usually goes.
By Ms. Ayesha Noor (sample author) | Sunday 18 October
Every child is different, and there is no perfect age to start school. But a few signs tell you that your child may enjoy Playgroup.
Signs your child may be ready
- Can stay with a relative for an hour or two without too many tears
- Enjoys playing near other children
- Can say what they want in a few words, in any language
- Can drink from a cup and eat a snack on their own
- Is starting toilet training
- Enjoys stories, songs and rhymes
- Can follow a simple instruction, like 'bring your shoes'
How to prepare at home
Talk about school in a happy way, read a story about a first day, and practise the morning routine a week before school starts. Keep goodbyes short and cheerful.
The first week
At Bright Future School a parent may stay in the room for the first days. Most children settle within two weeks. Teachers share how your child is doing every day on WhatsApp.
